Liverpool are working to finalise a deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, with the France international reportedly open to a move to Anfield as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, though PSG's staggering £140 million valuation stands as a significant obstacle to completing the transfer.
According to the Daily Mail, Barcola has made clear he does not wish to sign a new contract with the European champions despite two years still remaining on his current deal, and is willing to speak with Liverpool if terms can eventually be agreed with PSG. His price has risen sharply from the roughly £75 million Liverpool were quoted when they first made contact last summer, though the club will look to negotiate a more realistic compromise. Arsenal and Bayern Munich also retain interest, and Chelsea made earlier enquiries, but Barcola's stated preference currently favours a move to Merseyside.
Barcola's diminished role under Luis Enrique, who has not treated him as a guaranteed starter, has fuelled his desire for a fresh challenge. That situation had been expected to worsen further with PSG's pursuit of RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande, but Real Madrid have now won that particular race, closing off one path that would have pushed Barcola even further down the pecking order at the Parc des Princes. Liverpool's own £85 million approach for Diomande was rejected earlier in the window, leaving Barcola as their most realistic remaining attacking target.
With Arsenal simultaneously exploring a potential move for Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior and maintaining ambitious interest in Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez, their focus appears to be shifting elsewhere, further clearing Liverpool's path to Barcola, who is currently enjoying time off after starring for France in their run to the World Cup semi-finals, ahead of what promises to be a decisive negotiation between the two clubs.
