PSG Walk Away on Principle

The clearest path to a Real Madrid deal opened when Paris Saint-Germain formally withdrew from the race, despite having previously agreed personal terms with Diomande. Romano confirmed that PSG concluded they were not willing to compromise their principles of rational financial management and squad balance in order to compete with Real Madrid's improved offer, a decision that effectively handed the Spanish giants clear passage to their target. Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool had similarly chosen not to push their bids beyond the €100 million mark, leaving Real Madrid as the only club prepared to meet Leipzig's full valuation.

From Relegation to Bernabéu in Twelve Months

Diomande's rise has been one of the more remarkable stories of the past two seasons. After managing only two goals in six starts for Leganés during their La Liga relegation campaign in 2024-25, RB Leipzig paid €20 million to sign him last summer and saw an immediate return on that investment, with the Ivorian going on to score 15 goals across 46 appearances in all competitions last season as Leipzig secured Champions League qualification. He carried that form into this summer's World Cup, where he was one of Ivory Coast's standout performers before the Elephants were eliminated in the round of 32 by Norway.
